3. The defense gets to opposing quarterbacks and causes turnovers

The best season for the defense under Todd Bowles was undoubtedly 2015. According to Pro Football Focus Elite, the Jets has 350 pressure that season. They also only allowed 90.2 percent of drop backs to result is pass attempts and forced 30 turnovers.

A main part of the reason they could get to the quarterback was the coverage. That season according to PFF Elite, they had three cornerback register a coverage snaps per reception of over 10.0, and four of them allowed a passer rating of less than 80.0.

Last season, when playing the slot, Buster Skrine allowed a passer rating of 104.7, was target approximately every six snaps, and allowed a catch every 9.4 snaps. He was one of six players with over 300 snaps in the slot to allow a passer rating of over 100, and the three touchdowns were tied for the most.

The additions of Parry Nickerson (slot corner) and Trumaine Johnson drastically improve their coverage which will lead to more time for the rusher to get to the quarterback. That will force more pressure and more turnovers. In the end, pressure and coverage go hand in hand. Football is the ultimate team game, and that will be very evident in the Jets in 2018.
