The San Francisco 49ers’ roster still has holes, and here we look at five players they can target late in the offseason to address them.

The San Francisco 49ers still have some holes on their roster. For all the focus on free agency and the draft, it can often be the players added later in the offseason who end up making a more significant difference.

Since the draft, the 49ers have added to their offensive line, bringing back 2011 seventh-round pick Mike Person to give them another versatile option on the interior, while claiming cornerback C.J. Goodwin off waivers as well.

They do not have any spaces left on their roster at present but here we look at five players the 49ers could make room for and look to acquire before the start of the new season in September.

Elvis Dumervil

Some eyebrows were raised when the 49ers decided not to pick up the second year of Dumervil’s contract, the veteran having led the team with 6.5 sacks in 2017. That move looks even more bizarre after the Niners elected not to use a draft pick on an edge rusher, leaving the cupboard looking bare at that position.

General manager John Lynch indicated before the draft that re-signing Dumervil could be an option, per Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Cassius Marsh, Jeremiah Attaochu and Eli Harold are the top options at the position, though it will be interesting to see how Pita Taumoepenu develops after what effectively amounted to a redshirt year in 2017. But if the 49ers assess their performances over training camp and do not believe that quartet will produce to a satisfactory level, then do not be surprised if they look to bring back Dumervil.
