Readers will be seeing a lot about changes on the Tampa Bay defensive line throughout this exercise. The team’s two biggest shortcomings in 2017 were the inability to consistently run the football and the failure to steadily put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. So the organization is hoping that a couple of additions from the now-defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will prove to be worthwhile pickups.

Perhaps the most significant of those former Birds is six-year defensive end Vinny Curry. With a wealth of frontline players as well as depth along their defensive front, the Eagles tried to trade the former second-round pick earlier this year. But there were no takers the club opted to part ways with the steady performer. And the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were more than happy to scoop up the prize.

Ironically, Curry comes off a season in which he started all 16 games for the first time in his career. In fact, during his first five years in the league, he had never started a regular-season contest at all. He finished 2017 with 42 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. He also started all three games for the Birds during the club’s Super Bowl championship run and totaled a combined nine stops.

The six-year veteran played at least 14 games in each of his final five seasons in Philadelphia and rolled up a respectable 22 sacks in 78 outings. He brings a little oomph to this renovated defensive front.
