5. Marcedes Lewis, TE (from Jacksonville Jaguars)

A year ago when general manager Ted Thompson was still at the helm, the Green Bay Packers looked to bring a little added dimension to the team’s passing attack. They signed a pair of free agent tight ends in veterans Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks.

As for the former, he totaled 24 receptions for 233 yards but his stay with the team would be short-lived due to injury and a smidge of controversy. Kendricks would finish with 18 catches, good for 203 yards and one touchdown and remains on the roster.

Of course, most of that lack of production was due to the fact that the team was minus quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the majority of 2017. In any case, this is the first of two veteran tight ends that new general manager Brian Gutekunst added this offseason.

Marcedes Lewis is the latest of those signings. A first-round draft choice by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006, he was cut loose earlier this season after 12 years with that club and remained on the free-agent market until very recently. He totaled 375 catches for 4,502 yards and 33 scores during his tenure in Jacksonville.

He was a 16-game starter in 2017, totaling 24 grabs for 318 yards and five scores. The latter was the second-highest total of his steady career. And that number could certainly go up with Rodgers throwing him the football.
