Secondary

Cornerback: Trumaine Johnson, Morris Claiborne, Parry Nickerson, Rashard Robinson, Darryl Roberts, Juston Burris
Safety: Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, Rontez Miles, Terrence Brooks

Based on grades from Pro Football Focus, the Jets had the worst pass coverage in the league. It was their second consecutive season with a grade lower than -31. When they made back-to-back AFC title games, they were in the top five in PFF grades for coverage with a grade of 19.7 in 2010 and 27.2 in 2011.

Trumaine Johnson drastically improves the pass coverage. His 79.8 passer rating allowed in 2017 was 36th in the NFL. At Tulane, Parry Nickerson allowed passer rating of 41.7 in 2017, and he’s a ballhawk having 10 interceptions and 13 pass breakups as a junior and senior. His size will force a move inside in the NFL, but he’s got the speed and athleticism to handle the move.

Marcus Maye was great in coverage in 2017. That said, Jamal Adams was decent, but needs improvement. However, as a whole, this Jets coverage unit should provide the pass rush with the time necessary to get to the quarterback. They also give the Jets more flexibility in the pass rush and how creative they can be.
