Jacksonville Jaguars: Top 5 offseason additions, post 2018 NFL Draft
2. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE (from New York Jets)
He’s a player with all the physical skills you would want from the tight end spot. But the first four years of his NFL career has had its share of shaky moments. Still, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins would eventually get his act back together and now he finds himself with his third team in five years.
A second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014, the 6-5, 262-pound talent was thought to be a highly-promising prospect that could make an immediate impact on any team’s offense. In two-plus seasons (18 games) with the Buccaneers, he totaled 45 receptions for 603 yards and seven touchdowns. Eventually, some personal issues would get in the way and when it was all said and done, he was cut loose by the Bucs in September 2016.
The Jets gave him a second chance that same year and he closed the season with Todd Bowles’ club, totaling 10 receptions for 110 yards and zero scores in seven games with the Green and White. In 2017, Seferian-Jenkins snared a career-best 50 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns in 10 contests.
Now he’s a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who cut ties with former first-round pick Marcedes Lewis after 12 seasons, 375 catches and 33 scores with the club. Off a solid season, the young tight end this could wind up being an excellent move for a Jacksonville offense that will look quite different this fall.
