The Washington Redskins wrapped up minicamp this week and now get the rest of the summer off before training camp opens late next month.

Spring football is officially in the books for the Washington Redskins. Free agency and the draft are in the rearview mirror as are all offseason workouts. New quarterback Alex Smith spent the past few months getting acclimated with his new surroundings, while others, like rookie running back Derrius Guice, ingratiated himself with the fan base.

The Redskins are coming off a disappointing 7-9 season. Much of those struggles centered around injuries. Washington had a ton of injuries on both sides of the ball, especially on the offensive line. Much of the talk this offseason centered on Smith replacing Kirk Cousins under center.

After a few months in town, it’s clear the Redskins — and head coach Jay Gruden — love Smith.

Every time Gruden speaks to the media, he’s effusive in his praise for the signal-caller. Gruden realizes he has a quarterback that won’t require the amount of patience he’s had to show the last few years. Cousins got much better each season, however, he frustrated Gruden at times due to his inability to pull the trigger in tight coverage, among other things.

Everyone is happy with Smith, but what about the rest of the team? Here are five takeaways from Washington’s minicamp that concluded this week.
