Washington Redskins: 5 Takeaways from 2018 minicamp
5. Zach Brown is back
Linebacker Zach Brown had a breakout season of sorts last season with the Redskins. It was his first season in Washington after signing a one-year deal in the offseason. For a time in 2017, Brown led the NFL in tackles before injuries sidelined him in December. In the offseason, Brown found tepid interest around the league and ended up re-signing with the Redskins for three years.
It was the right decision for the player and the team. Brown thrived last season, especially when players like Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis were healthy in front of him. Brown is at his best attacking the line of scrimmage. With Washington’s defensive tackles occupying plenty of space in front of him, Brown could be in store for a big season. It also helps that Mason Foster is back, too.
Surprisingly, Brown missed Washington’s OTA sessions over the last few weeks. He was in town for at least one but missed the majority. It was a mystery as to why Brown was absent, but it’s important to remember these practices are voluntary.
Fortunately for the Redskins, Brown was back and appeared happy for the minicamp. Washington is expecting a much-improved defense in 2018 and Brown is a big reason why.
