NFL Draft 2019: 6 Teams that should already be eyeing Justin Herbert
Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert has the rare tools that will make him coveted in the 2019 NFL Draft, and these teams should already be eyeing him.
NFL teams go as their quarterback goes. Gone are the days where a defense can just carry a team. The quarterback has to play an intricate part in their team’s success. That is, if they want to make it to the Super Bowl.
Every year a new crop of quarterbacks enter the fray of the most coveted position in the NFL. However, that doesn’t mean all 32 starters are “franchise quarterbacks.” Before the NCAA and NFL season starts, there’s one player at the position who’ll likely turn heads.
Oregon’s Justin Herbert has the ideal NFL size, listed at 6-6, 231 pounds. Herbert was fantastic in the games he started for Oregon, going 6-2. His winning ways came by way of 15 passing touchdowns and five rushing. Additionally, he averaged over 500 total yards per game.
Unfortunately, he missed five games due to injury, but that didn’t stop Las Vegas from making him the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman. The hype around Herbert spans beyond college football. According to NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, Herbert is a gifted thrower with great athleticism:
"“I love Herbert’s combination of size, arm talent and athleticism. He’s a gifted thrower who’s capable of driving the ball into tight windows or layering the ball over linebackers and under safeties… Herbert shows the toughness to hang in the pocket and take some shots from opposing pass rushers. He’s also very accurate on the move to both his right and left.”"
Teams are desperately looking for that “franchise” quarterback. Herbert could be the guy and there are a few teams that should already have Justin Herbert on their radar.
