The Tampa Bay Buccaneers landed USC running back Ronald Jones in the 2018 NFL Draft, and he looks to bring some big play ability to the position.

In 2015, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took quarterback Jameis Winston with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. The idea was to make him the cornerstone of the franchise. And, to this point in his career, they have done so, putting resources around their investment under center.

On offense, the front office added weapons around him via free agency and the draft, the likes of DeSean Jackson, O.J. Howard and Chris Godwin coming aboard. While Winston has flashed greatness and improved his accuracy to this point though, the offense has struggled.

In fact, one of the reasons the team finished 18th in total offense was due to the putrid running game. After missing out on a running back in past drafts, they rectified the mistake in 2018.

In the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Bucs selected Ronald Jones, formerly of the USC Trojans. However, Jones was late to the NFL party until recently. According to TampaBay.com, Jones signed his rookie contract.

Now that the Jones has signed on the dotted lines, the Bucs have someone who can take pressure off of Winston. The 5-11, 205-pound runner has the skills to lift the Bucs 27th ranked rushing attack out of the league’s cellar. Jones is a lightning-rod out of the backfield. He’s a one-cut runner with enough power and tenacity to fight for extra yards.

What makes him special is his that he has the speed to take it the distance. He has excellent agility that aids in his ability to run routes. Jones’ ability makes him more than just a traditional running back, but a modern back that can have an effect on the Tampa Bay passing attack as well.

The Bucs made the right move selecting Jones on Day 2 of the draft. With Jones signing his contract, they will look for him to step up and carry the load.
