The Verdict

I’m not sure. Some things should fix themselves by the law of averages, like eliminating awful mistakes and special teams errors. But then, the Patriots have an uncanny way of making even the best teams do silly things. As it stands right now, I am not sure the defense can hold Brady to under 20 points without another impactful player on the inside of the defensive line.

In their last four meetings, the Chargers have been held to an average of 17 points per game, a figure that has resulted in four straight losses. Rivers could, in theory, spread the ball around to what is likely one of the best talent groups in the league. A Matt Patricia-less defense possibly less potentially deadly, but Belichick is a genius and will give the offense everything it can handle. It’s going to take near-perfection to pull it off.

Here’s what we know: To make the Super Bowl, the Bolts need to overcome the Patriots. It’s generally the team most any AFC franchise needs to beat to get to the big dance. The 2018 season has all the makings of a special one, and the Chargers can make their biggest statement win of the decade by eliminating the Patriots in the playoffs.

Can they pull it off? I guess we will just have to hope the Chargers get the chance, and then wait and see.
