The preparation for the 2018 season continues for all 32 NFL clubs. So what five additions stand out for Sean Payton’s New Orleans Saints?

When you consider how their recent history and how the 2017 began, the New Orleans proved to be one of the more surprising stories of this past season. Three consecutive 7-9 finishes were followed by losses in their first two games last September. Then before you could say jambalaya, the club bounced back to win 11 of their final 14 games. An 11-5 finish by Sean Payton’s club wrapped up the team’s first playoff berth since 2013 and first division title since 2011.

A club long known for its explosive passing attack and defensive inefficiencies did a 180 in late September. When it was all said and done, the club averaged exactly 28 points per contest. Payton’s club scored 46 offensive touchdowns — 23 both on the ground and through the air. A balance approach saw the team finish second in the league in total offense and fifth in the NFL in both rushing and passing yards per game.

Of course, the Saints’ one and only Super Bowl season came in 2009. But this club has that kind of feel to it. The defense figures to make more strides this year and prolific quarterback Drew Brees shows no signs of slowing down.

So what five offseason additions will prove to be the best in the Crescent City this fall?
