Blake Bortles has won the trust of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Nathaniel Hackett. Expect changes to the offensive philosophy.

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett expressed that Blake Bortles has improved significantly since he first met him. How will that be translated out on the field and especially in the offensive scheme?

Here is what Hackett said.

Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk reported Hackett’s comments:

"“We’re in a great situation, because a very good line, and we have very good running backs, which will allow us to run the ball,” Hackett said. “Now it’s going to allow us to be a lot more aggressive, because you can trust that Blake is going to make right decision more consistently.”"

First of all, there is a good chance that Bortles will throw more deep downfield. Jacksonville has upgraded the tight end position with Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Play action passing will be more in play because of the running game. Seferian-Jenkins will run many seam routes.

Next, the wide receiving corps is very deep and young. D.J. Chark will give Bortles a much needed speedy option. Chark is the right receiver to stretch the defense vertically. Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole grew immensely throughout last season. Westbrook and Bortles developed some chemistry while Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson were injured. Cole made big plays in strategic situations.

Marqise Lee will be Bortles possession receiver across the middle in all likelihood. Donte Moncrief is going to be the offense’s wild card this season. Only Hackett knows how Moncrief will be used.

Bortles’ decision making has been his troubles since 2014. He rushed many throws into small windows which resulted into interceptions. Remember the talk about his record pace with pick-sixes?

Alper continued with Hackett on Bortles:

"The process still had its rough patches last season, but Hackett saw growth in moments when Bortles checked down to running backs or changed to run plays in order to avoid the risks he was too willing to take in the past."

Although Bortles still has his critics, he is winning the confidence of the coaching staff. The playbook will definitely be expanded because of Bortles and his weapons. Expect another deep playoff run this coming season, hopefully through February.
