Oakland Raiders: 3 Players flying under the radar in 2018
By Randy Gurzi
2. Doug Martin, RB
There was little to no fanfare when the Raiders picked up Doug Martin. Once known as one of the better young backs in the game, Martin saw his popularity fast quicker than his muscle hamster nickname he was trying to avoid.
After six seasons of highs and lows with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Martin was cut and given a one-year deal with Oakland. It’s probably his last chance to stick in the league.

That’s why it’s been good for him that things have been so quiet. Martin has had the noise and that’s not worked out for him.
He broke out as a rookie with 1,453 yards and 11 touchdowns. Injuries and ineffectiveness plagued him the next two seasons as he totaled less than 1,000 yards in 2013 and 2014 combined.
Then when so many were out on him, he again went for a huge year, rumbling for 1,402 yards. A big contract extensions followed, but then two more seasons in the 400-yard range, plus a suspension in 2016 for violating the substance abuse policy, ended his time with the Bucs.
Now he comes in at 29-years old backing up Marshawn Lynch. Being behind such a polarizing player could be just what Martin needs. He won’t have a lot put on his shoulders, which could have a huge impact on his production when he is on the field.
