Oakland Raiders: 3 Players flying under the radar in 2018
By Randy Gurzi
1. Ryan Switzer, WR
The last player flying under the radar is Ryan Switzer. The fourth-round pick out of North Carolina found himself unexpectedly dealt during the draft as the Dallas Cowboys sent him away for defensive tackle Jihad Ward.
For Dallas, it was all about adding defensive tackle help. For the Raiders, they saw a shot to unload someone who didn’t work out for them and get a young player with a lot of upside.
Switzer was great for the Tar Heels, but was criminally underutilized by the coaching staff in Dallas. They confused his quickness in running his routes for speed out of the backfield and tried to utilize him as a runner. That’s not his forte.
In Oakland he could get back to what he does best, which is destroying teams in the slot with precise route running and soft hands. On top of that, he could offer a replacement for Cordarrelle Patterson in the return game.
Next: Most overrated player on all 32 teams
It was unfortunate for Oakland that Ward didn’t pan out, because he had a lot of upside coming out of Illinois. It was also unfortunate for Switzer that the Cowboys tried to place him in a role he wasn’t fit to do.
This switch could be the best thing that happened to both players as they each can be put in a better situation for individual success.
