Madden 19: 7 Rookies who deserved more rankings love

Madden 19 dropped their top five rookie ratings at various positions, but a few first-year players got snubbed. Here are seven rookies who deserve to be on the list.

Rumors surrounding rookie player ratings on Madden 19 for the 2018 NFL Draft class has fans confused. In fact, I jumped the gun when it was rumored that Baltimore Ravens rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson would receive a 67 rating — that (thankfully) proved to be wrong.

EA Sports recently released the ratings of their top five rookies at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and defensive player. The quarterbacks are on spot on with Baker Mayfield leading the way (81), followed by Lamar Jackson (79), Josh Rosen (78), Sam Darnold (75) and Josh Allen (74).

However, at the other positions, a few names were missing from the top five. Here are seven players that deserve to have an overall rating worthy of the top five. 

7. Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Miami Dolphins 

Los Angelas Chargers safety Derwin James leads all safeties with an 80 overall rating. Minkah Fitzpatrick, now of the Miami Dolphins, should be right there with him though. For starters, awareness alone should help Fitzpatrick into the top five.

The hybrid safety had his football intellect compared to his head coach at Alabama, Nick Saban. Furthermore, Fitzpatrick has the ability to drop into coverage in a single high safety position because of his ball skills. When the ball is in the air, he does a fantastic job tracking it. The proof was in 2016 when he had six interceptions at safety. In addition to his six picks, he returned two for touchdowns — totaling four for his career.

Fitzpatrick has added value because of his ability to drop down and cover as a corner. The 6-0, 204 pounds, he has solid speed (4.46-second 40) and quickness that allows him to mirrors receivers. At Alabama, he was asked to play cornerback and proved that he’s capable of being the nickel on certain downs.
