The defense has been the Achilles heel for the Green Bay Packers in recent years.  How did the defense improve over the offseason?

Ever since the Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XLV, the defense seemed to decline in production. It all started with a horrendous 2011 season. It was a classic bend-don’t-break defense. The unit gave up the most yards in the NFL despite only giving up 22 points per game.

The 2014 season saw some improvement to the defense. However, after blowing a 16-point lead in the NFC Championship Game, it didn’t really matter. Losing two of your best cornerbacks in free agency didn’t help either.

Overall, the defense just hasn’t been good for a long time. The organization has made strides to fix the defense in the last couple of months though.

From a fan’s perspective, the moves look promising. New Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst knows player acquisition was key to improving the defense this offseason, per WTMJ in Wisconsin.

"“Our foundation is going to be the draft, but I think free agency is an absolute must as an additional piece.”"

2018 could see the revival of the Packers defense thanks to three major improvements to the unit. While training camp has yet to even start, many strides have been taken and it should pay off when the team takes the field in September.
