Imagine being four deep at wide receiver. Now imagine all four being on the field at the same time. That’s what the New York Jets have in 2018.

The New York Jets have four wide receivers who have posted a season of 800 yards or more in their careers. They’re the only team in the NFL that can boast of that. In fact, they are all interchangeable.

All four receivers have, at one point in their careers played the slot and outside. So, you can make the case that you could have three of the four on the field anywhere you line up a wide receiver, and when you want to go four wide line them anywhere as well.

In fact, there’s another way all four can be on the field. Given his ability to block, the Jets could line up Terrelle Pryor, Robby Anderson, and Jermaine Kearse as wide receivers and Quincy Enunwa as a H-back, and that would be a very difficult lineup to defend. That would create matchup issues in the passing game against linebackers, and the Jets could still run out of that formation.

This is all dependent on one thing though — the health of Pryor. If he’s ready to participate in camp, the Jets may finally have the matchup advantage on offense they’ve been looking for.

Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates has a lot of pieces he can move around, and that spells only good things for the Jets. When you add in Dimitri Flowers — who can also play multiple positions — the Jets offense can be more like a game of chess now. They have a bunch of queens rather than a bunch of rooks, knights, and bishops. They still have the less versatile pieces, but you need the mix like a chess board.

It’s up to who starts at quarterback, though. That said, the Jets do have a lot of moving parts, and it’s going to be a fun offense to watch, and finally Jets fans can look forward to this season rather than just the future.
