4. Weston Richburg, C (from New York Giants)

This is the first of two key moves that San Francisco 49ers’ general manager John Lynch made this offseason to upgrade an offensive front that was average at best this past season. Kyle Shanahan’s club finished 21st in the NFL in rushing yards per game and the Niners allowed 43 sacks. Conversely, even with new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on the field the final six games (starting the last five weeks), this was a team that managed to score only 30 offensive touchdowns in 16 contests.

One of Lynch’s first acquisitions this offseason was to sign versatile Weston Richburg away from the New York Giants. Via Spotrac, the 27-year old blocker inked a five-year, $47.5 million contract to relocate from the East Coast to the Bay Area. Days later, San Francisco dealt pivot Daniel Kilgore to the Miami Dolphins.

The 2014 second-round selection from Colorado State has started at both left guard and center during his NFL career. With Shanahan’s team, he will be making sure that Garoppolo gets the football on a reliable basis.

It is worth noting that the talented performer was limited to only four games this past season, just one of many starters for the Giants’ offensive line was bitten by the injury bug in 2017. Now he joins a team on the rise and hopes to be a focal point of a revamped front that must perform much better this season.
