It’s almost time for training camp and former Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette still doesn’t have a job. Should the team bring him back?

Junior Galette spent the past three seasons with the Washington Redskins and recorded a grand total of three sacks. To be fair to Galette, he only played in 2017 after missing his first two years in Washington due to a ruptured Achilles in both legs. When he finally debuted for the Redskins in 2017, Galette played in all 16 games and was a reliable backup to starters Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith.

When Galette became a free agent in March, many expected him to find a home in the second wave of free agency. Injuries and some character concerns were always going to be an issue for some teams, but Galette was on his best behavior with Washington over the last three years. Unfortunately, pass-rushers coming off two Achilles’ injuries rarely get paid big money on the open market.

So, training camp is here and Galette is still without a job. Early in the offseason, the Redskins signed Pernell McPhee to be the top backup at outside linebacker and are expecting a jump in production from second-year linebacker Ryan Anderson. Apparently frustrated with Galette’s demands, the Redskins and Galette mutually decided to end their relationship.

Now, Galette is mentioning possibly signing with the Redskins again on his always entertaining Twitter feed. It’s important to note, Washington’s side has said in nothing about Galette.

But, Galette publicly saying that would indicate the Redskins have kept tabs on Galette’s market — or lack of market.

While Galette didn’t put up huge numbers in 2017, he didn’t exactly get a lot of snaps. The coaching staff took it easy on Galette early in the season as they didn’t want to rush him back. However, as the season progressed, Galette wanted more snaps and certainly deserved them. Advanced stats pointed to Galette being very good in his limited opportunities.

At this point, the Redskins have nothing to lose by offering Galette another incentive-laden one-year deal. His market is non-existent and Washington would be wise to jump in and get him on board. Right now, the Redskins have some talent at outside linebacker but are one injury away from trouble. And McPhee is a player who’s had his share of injuries.

What do you say, Washington? Galette could add another talented piece to what should be a much-improved unit in 2018.
