NFL Training Camp 2018: 12 Rookies who can carve out significant roles
7. Kerryon Johnson, RB, Detroit Lions
There’s a lot to like about Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson. At Auburn, Johnson showed patience and power between the tackles in Gus Malzahn. He showed a knack for the end zone as he dominated in college football’s toughest conference, the SEC. At the Combine, he showed off his hands and route running and continued to do so during rookie camps with Detroit.
There’s buzz surrounding Johnson, so all he has to do is keep improving. He’s a dynamic back with big-time playmaker ability. Currently, Johnson projects as a rotational back. After all, there’s two-time Super Bowl-winning journeyman Legarrette Blount, in addition to Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah. Still, camp will be Johnson’s time to shine and, once he does, there will be no looking back.
8. J’Mon Moore, WR, Green Bay Packers
With Randall Cobb in a walking boot, the Green Bay Packers will look to their rookie wide receivers. The rookie who will benefit the most will be J’Mon Moore. The 6-3, 207-pound receiver has the length, speed and body control to play on the boundary. Contrarily, his length doesn’t hinder his quick twitch ability, thus making him a fit inside at the slot as well. If Moore can continue to improve on his route running, he could see a high volume of targets in his rookie season.
