Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams proved in a workout video he is more than ready for training camp.

Trent Williams hobbled through much of the 2017 season before shutting it down late in the season so he could undergo knee surgery and be ready for training camp in July 2018. The star left tackle for the Washington Redskins was outstanding on one leg for much of the 2017 season, but entering his ninth season in the NFL, Williams understands the importance of taking care of his body more than ever.

Throughout the offseason, the Redskins, head coach Jay Gruden and Williams himself maintained he’d be ready for training camp in late July. You believed it, however, with the Washington Redskins these injuries always seem to linger. See Reed, Jordan.

Well, much of the concerns about Williams and his knee were put to rest earlier this week when a video was released showing the standout offensive lineman working out with his former college teammate and future Hall-of-Famer, Adrian Peterson. It’s truly amazing.

For an offensive lineman to keep pace with a running back as athletic as Peterson is truly phenomenal. And it has to make Gruden and Washington extremely happy. Now, the Redskins know their left tackle will be 100 percent for training camp.

For his part, Williams, who is not an active social-media user, was proud. And he should be.

Even though the Redskins know Williams is healthy, they should take it easy on him throughout training camp. He has nothing to prove and his position is not being threatened. Williams could literally sit out for weeks, come back and shut down any opposing pass rusher. He’s rare. That means no preseason games for Williams.

The ever-competitive Peterson was teased by fellow NFL running back, LeGarrette Blount, but took the ribbing well by praising Williams’ extremely rare athleticism.

It’s hard to believe this will be Williams’ ninth season in the NFL. The Redskins have had an unbelievably great run on left tackles as Chris Samuels manned the position for 10 years just before Williams was drafted before being forced to retire. Samuels was a perennial Pro-Bowler, too.

Last season was a tough one for Washington fans, but if seeing Williams is any indication of what’s ahead, 2018 could be much different.
