5. Barkevious Mingo, OLB (from Indianapolis Colts)

Many would consider the former defender from LSU a major disappointment. And as outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo joins his fourth different team in as many years, the sixth overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft looks to be a steady contributor on the Seattle Seahawks’ rebuilding defensive unit.

As previously mentioned, there’s no more Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril. Also, cornerbacks Jeremy Lane and Deshawn Shead, the latter signing with the Detroit Lions. And after swinging a big trade for defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson a year ago, he’s now a member of the Minnesota Vikings.

The Seahawks already boast one of the best linebacker duos in middle man Bobby Wagner and weakside performer K.J. Wright. For the fourth consecutive year, these two players were the club’s top two tacklers. Wagner (133 tackles in 2017) was first the past two seasons and Wright (108 in 2017) paced the club in stops in 2014 and 2015. Both defenders are very proficient when it comes to their overall game, most notably when it comes to pass coverage. But neither are a real threat when it comes to pressuring opposing quarterbacks.

And that’s where the Seahawks are hoping Mingo could help. The team finished with a respectable 39 sacks a year ago but Bennett (8.5) had his share. It’s safe to say that Norton could put the five-year pro into some advantageous situations. In any case, this will be a very different Seattle defense in 2018.
