2. Tom Johnson, DT (from Minnesota Vikings)

He is certainly one of the more underrated interior defenders in the league. After four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, 33-year old Tom Johnson has relocated to the Pacific Northwest. He joins a Seattle Seahawks’ defensive front that is certainly down a few pieces from recent years. Boisterous defensive end Michael Bennett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason and bookend Cliff Avril was cut Loose by the club.

As for the inside of this group, add details. Johnson is a seven-year veteran who began his career with the New Orleans Saints but thrived with the Purple Gang. Under head coach Mike Zimmer, he collected 16 sacks and played in in 62 regular-season games for the Vikings. He comes off a year in which he made a career-best 15 starts and totaled 32 tackles. And it is certainly worth noting that only the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles allowed fewer yards on the ground this season.

Johnson should be able to help Seattle’s defense in numerous ways. There’s a new coordinator for Pete Carroll’s club in the form of Ken Norton Jr. The Seahawks were a disappointing 19th in the NFL against the run this past year. The 6-3, 295-pound pro brings a lot of savvy and reliability to a club looking to rebound on this side of the football.
