The Miami Dolphins need to get things back on track after a disappointing 2017 campaign, and here’s what need to happen with the defense in 2018.

After the Miami Dolphins made the playoffs in the 2016 season, fans had high hopes for what the team could accomplish last year. Unfortunately, the fans were left disappointed as the 2017 campaign played out nothing close to what they’d hoped it would. Now, those same people are a bit dejected with the taste of last season still in their mouths.

The problems that plagued the Dolphins in 2017 were all over the roster and field. They couldn’t control things like quarterback Ryan Tannehill being out for the season due to injury. However, that doesn’t excuse things like their inability to stop the run or block up front. That is to say, there were things that the team could control that they weren’t able to accomplish.

We started with a focus on the offense in terms of what needs to happen to turn things around in 2018. Now we are going to focus on the defense and three things that must happen if the Dolphins are going to have a successful season and, at the very least, compete for a playoff spot.

It is more than possible for this team as currently constructed to make another playoff run, but certain things have to happen for that to be the case. And with that, we look at the three things the Dolphins defense must accomplish this season for the team to get closer to their 2016 form.
