Training camp opens this week for the Washington Redskins. Who are five players in the spotlight?

In just a few short days, football is officially back as teams around the NFL report to training camp. The Washington Redskins officially report back to work on Thursday to begin their 2018 season. While most believe the Redskins are probably the third or fourth best team in the NFC East heading into the season, there’s plenty of optimism surrounding the team, at least from within.

Plenty of that optimism centers around new quarterback Alex Smith. Smith, who replaced Kirk Cousins under center, has his new teammates and coaches excited. Not only does Smith want to be in Washington, he’s also coming off the best season of his 13-year career, too.

In addition to the arrival of Smith, wide receiver Paul Richardson, defensive tackle Daron Payne and running back Derrius Guice are among the newest Redskins. And Washington gets back a who’s who of injured stars. Trent Williams, Morgan Moses, Chris Thompson, Jordan Reed and Jonathan Allen are among the Redskins who were injured or missed time during the 2017 season.

There are plenty of players you should pay close attention to at training camp this week but here are the top five players to watch as the Redskins begin camp.
