No. 2: Derrius Guice

There’s no question, Guice is probably the most-talked-about Redskin heading into training camp. Guice, a clear first-round talent, inexplicably slipped in the draft and right into the lap of Washington. The Redskins had thoroughly scouted Guice throughout the draft process and were elated to land him in round two.

Guice has endeared himself to Washington’s fans since April and a standout rookie campaign could make him a legend in D.C. much sooner than expected. Washington fans love talented players with personality. That’s Guice to a tee. The Redskins haven’t had a running back as talented as Guice since Clinton Portis in his prime in the mid-2000s.

There are questions about how much Gruden will run the football. But Gruden likes to run the football, the Redskins just haven’t been very successful at it. Nor have the Redskins had a back capable of creating yards on his own outside of the dynamic Chris Thompson, who the Redskins only want to use in specific situations.

Guice will be watched closely throughout training camp. Fans will want to get as close as possible to their new running back, while coaches look to keep him healthy and unleash him on the league come September.
