Josh Doctson is entering his third season with the Washington Redskins and is on the verge of a breakout campaign and being a fantasy football stud.

After missing the majority of his rookie season in 2016, Washington Redskins’ wide receiver Josh Doctson took a big step forward in 2017. Doctson played in all 16 games last season, catching 35 passes for 502 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns.

Doctson had his share of ups and downs, too, dropping some critical passes like the one in the end zone late in a close loss at Kansas City.

With former quarterback Kirk Cousins gone, Doctson gets a new quarterback in Alex Smith. And the good news is no quarterback in the NFL was better on deep passes last season than Smith. That is perfect for Doctson and his impressive skill set.

Doctson is big with strong hands and huge catch radius. While he isn’t the fastest receiver in the NFL, Doctson is an outstanding deep-ball receiver. His ability to track the football in the air and adjust is elite. His catch on the game-winning drive at Seattle last year was one of the best in the entire league for the 2017 season.

Now, the Redskins are counting on Doctson to make another leap forward in 2018 and the early signs are encouraging. Teammates raved about Doctson throughout the offseason and head coach Jay Gruden is ready to make him a focal point of the offense.

For fantasy football players, that means Doctson could be an emerging star. Doctson caught six touchdowns last year and did it in a variety of ways. Whether it was catching a deep ball and running it in, or scoring from within the red zone, Doctson is capable of double-digit touchdowns on an annual basis.

Doctson gained confidence throughout the season in 2017 and the Redskins are counting on him continuing that development this fall. While Doctson probably won’t catch 100 balls because of the variety of weapons around him, he should come in with 65-70 receptions, 1,000 yards and 10-12 touchdowns. Those are the kind of numbers that help win fantasy championships and Doctson won’t cost a lot — at least early in the season.

So, when you’re filling out your fantasy rosters this summer, save a spot for Doctson. It will pay off come December.
