David Johnson has checked into the Arizona Cardinals training camp and is ready to go

All eyes were on David Johnson after he skipped the mandatory minicamp in June. Johnson is wanting the Arizona Cardinals to extend his contract. Currently, there is no agreement on his contract.

Remember, Johnson missed a the majority of last season, playing in just one game before his year came to an abrupt halt. He rushed for only 23 yards on 11 carries as he suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. Apparently, he is healthy and ready to play football.

Kyle Odegard of AZCardinals.com reports Johnson’s statement:

"“I’m here to play football,” Johnson told azcardinals.com. “I trust my agency, Sportstars, and I know they’ll get it done when the time comes.”..“The Cardinals want me to play for them for a long time, and I want to be here for a long time,” Johnson said."

Johnson is going to get his extension. However, Arizona needs to bring him back slowly. Since there has been a coaching change, Johnson’s role will be different fro season’s past.

Cardinals have brought back the fullback position. Johnson will have a lead blocker. Arizona is going to get Johnson out on the edge and upfield. Without the kickoff block, that play is difficult to run.

Most of all, how much will Johnson play in each preseason game? What would be the appropriate number of touches? Perhaps they will throw more passes his way to allow him to re-acclamate to the speed of the game.

Many eyes will be watching Johnson’s wrist. The wrist plays a huge role for a running back. The first time he puts his hand down, to cushion his fall, will speak volumes. What if Sam Bradford fires a bullet pass, will Johnson be able to secure the catch?
