Training camp opened on Thursday with several injured Washington Redskins returning, while two begin the preseason on the PUP list.

The Washington Redskins opened training camp on Thursday and several injured stars looked healthier than ever. Players like Jordan Reed, Trent Williams and Chris Thompson — who all ended last season on injured reserve — looked good in on-field drills and didn’t appear limited.

Two players, however, will open camp on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list as defensive tackle Stacy McGee continues his recovery from groin surgery, while cornerback Josh Holsey suffered an injury from a table falling on his foot.

Holsey’s prognosis isn’t currently known, but McGee should be good to go before the start of the season. Holsey is in a battle for a roster spot with a pair of rookies, Greg Stroman and Adonis Alexander. A seventh-round pick in 2017, Holsey appeared in 12 games as a rookie.

McGee is a lock to make the roster and was solid in his first year with the Redskins last season. He played in all 16 games, making 10 starts and was solid against the run. With the addition of first-round pick Daron Payne, McGee’s playing time was likely to be reduced this season.

While the Redskins have completed just one day of camp, it’s still good news so many players appear on track for the season opener. While Reed, Thompson and Williams looked sharp in limited drills, the team will take a safe approach will all three.

These are three of the most important players on the team.

Holsey’s absence could be good news for Stroman and Alexander. Alexander, a sixth-round supplemental pick just two weeks ago, was going to make the team. Holsey’s absence should give him more opportunities to impress coaches this summer. Stroman had a strong spring and is also slated to be a primary competitor to return punts.

It’s a good start for the Redskins, but there’s a long way to go before Sept. 9.
