Green Bay Packers: Jimmy Graham already showing out in training camp
By Joe Kipp
After just two days of training camp, Jimmy Graham already looks to have secured a huge role in the Green Bay Packers offense.
It’s been a long, grueling road of a recovery for Jimmy Graham to get to this point. Just two seasons removed from a significant knee injury in 2015, Graham has tried almost everything — yes, even stem cells — in an attempt to prolong his career. For the Green Bay Packers, as long as he’s on the field, it’s fair game.
After just two days of training camp, it looks like Graham will have an immense role in 2018. Reports from camp indicate that Graham has been lined up anywhere and everywhere on offense. Whether it be in the slot, split out wide or in line as a traditional tight end, Graham has been utilized to his full potential thus far.
Questions were raised about whether Graham would only be a redzone threat as opposed to an all-around weapon. The Seattle Seahawks used Graham far less than what he was capable of, a far cry from his time with the New Orleans Saints.
Not to worry though, as all indications so far have shown that Graham may be Aaron Rodgers’ new favorite target sans Jordy Nelson.
“He uses his body really well, runs good routes, and he’s a matchup issue. We haven’t had [that] consistent matchup issue guy for a long time,” Rodgers said of Graham, via Packers Wire.
Sure, we’re only a few days into training camp and seemingly everyone “looks good” this early. Without football for the past five months, reporters are ready and looking for anything to write about. But that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited about the Packers’ newest weapon, especially because it looks like Green Bay is figuring out how to maximize his full potential.
