2019 NFL Mock Draft: Defensive line rules at start of training camp
By Randy Gurzi
14. Oakland Raiders: Anfernee Jennings, Alabama, ILB
The Oakland Raiders brought in Jon Gruden to be their head coach and the guy who used to coach them many years ago went out to get himself some veterans. Maybe it was his 10 years away from the game, but Gruden decided it was best to get some players past their prime.
Doug Martin was added to a running back room that already featured the overly-aged Marshawn Lynch, which was a bit surprising. He then brought in Jordy Nelson at wide receiver, despite the Green Bay Packers deciding his best days were behind him.
Lastly, they added linebacker Derrick Johnson, who Gruden practically laughed about getting from their divisional rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. He must have glossed over the fact that Johnson will be 36 this coming November, but that’s fine.
Oakland may get some good play from Johnson, but he’s a one-year rental at best. That’s why they need to go for some youth in the 2019 NFL Draft. That’s why they target Anfernee Jennings from Alabama. He’s a big man at over 260 pounds, but is as sound as they come. His ceiling is very high and he could be the next big thing from the Crimson Tide.
