2019 NFL Mock Draft: Defensive line rules at start of training camp
By Randy Gurzi
19. Dallas Cowboys: Dexter Lawrence, Clemson, DT
Year after year the Dallas Cowboys seem to need help at their one-technique defensive tackle spot. Even so, they never really address it. They’ll add defensive ends, they’ll add linebackers and members of the secondary. They will go all out trying to fix their defense, but they refuse to add someone who they think will just be a two-down player.
However, they may be willing to bend on that stubbornness for the right player. There were rumors they were interested in Washington’s nose tackle Vita Vea in this past draft, but he was gone by the time they were on the clock. We don’t know if they would have pulled the trigger, but considering it is a huge step for them.
In the 2019 NFL Draft, they finally pull the trigger on another massive defensive tackle who is worthy of a first-round pick. This selection goes to Dexter Lawrence, a massive member of the Clemson Tigers.
Standing 6-5 and weighing 340 pounds, Lawrence would give the Dallas D-line a huge bump in strength. He was much better as a freshman than a sophomore which is a bit concerning, but that could just lead to him being here for the taking when Dallas drafts.
Adding him with a group that could still include names like DeMarcus Lawrence, David Irving, Tyrone Crawford, Maliek Collins, Taco Charlton and the recently reinstated Randy Gregory could make this a huge strength for the Boys.
