Fantasy Football Rankings: 5 Rookies destined to be superstars in 2018
4. Jaylen Samuels, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Current ADP: N/A
I’ll be honest — this is a homer pick. I’ve got a huge man-crush on Jaylen Samuels, and I’m a firm believer that the rest of the NFL is sleeping on a player who could turn out to be a do-it-all weapon for an already dangerous Pittsburgh offense.
Yes, Le’Veon Bell is still on the roster. However, it doesn’t appear that’ll be the case in 2019. That means the Steelers will be looking for an in-house replacement for the dynamic runner this season. While I like James Conner and his story, I can’t pretend that I’m not convinced Samuels will easily overtake him as the heir apparent to the starting running back role.
Put simply, Samuels can do everything. During his days at NC State, he played running back, H-back, tight end and slot receiver. Whether he was running it up the gut and running routes, he always found a way to make plays for the Wolfpack. More specifically, he was always the guy the offense went to when they needed a big play made in a clutch situation.
I see him becoming one of those go-to threats for the Steelers, even this season. Bell’s role will decrease slightly, allowing room for someone to steal some touches. Look for Samuels to assert him as someone who makes good things happen with the ball in his hands, forcing Pittsburgh to begin the transition earlier than anticipated.
