Fantasy Football Rankings: 5 Rookies destined to be superstars in 2018
2. Rashad Penny, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Current ADP: 49.3
Admittedly, I was very skeptical when the Seattle Seahawks felt it necessary to spend a first-round pick on Rashad Penny. I knew he was a productive, well-rounded runner during his days at San Diego State, but Day 1 seemed like a rather sizable reach for the former Aztec.
And yet, now that I’ve done more research and heard more about Penny, I’m starting to think he could be exactly what the Seahawks need. What is that exactly? A tough, dependable running back who can be effective on all three downs while providing Russell Wilson with another deadly arrow in his quiver.
This is, of course, assuming Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise don’t eat into his touches too much. Carson looked like the back of the future last season before a broken leg ended his rookie campaign prematurely, and began training camp as the first-team running back. Meanwhile, Prosise is a sparkplug in the passing game who could take over third downs if he can stay healthy.
Despite the competition, I see Penny coming out on top in 2018. The Seahawks didn’t spend a first-round pick on him to let him sit on the bench as a rookie. Especially with the desperate state the Seattle running game is in, it’ll be too hard to leave college football’s most productive runner of 2017 planted on the sideline.
Penny figures to have a big rookie season in the Emerald City. It may be in your best interests to jump on his fantasy football bandwagon before it’s too late.
