This was a popular one last year among Kansas City Chiefs fans, but it warrants further consideration in 2018 since Patrick Mahomes is running the show. With Alex Smith now in D.C., the franchise’s hopes lie in the hands of the young gunslinger.

In a way, the Chiefs are literally rollin’ with Mahomes. This offseason, they traded Smith (their starter for the last five seasons) to the Redskins. That move opened the door for Mahomes to take center stage in Kansas City. Now we’ll have a chance to see if the sophomore quarterback is up to the challenge of leading an NFL offense.

Based on what we saw last year, the future looks bright for Mahomes. Although he only played in one game, he performed well, showing off a rocket arm, impressive confidence and good instincts in the pocket despite being surrounded by a second-string supporting cast. Now the starter, he could see even more success with the Chiefs’ top playmakers at his disposal.
