Honestly, I’m surprised Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t currently coming off the board earlier in fantasy drafts. The San Francisco 49ers’ new franchise quarterback may not have put up huge numbers in his starting role a season ago, but he’s being hyped as the next elite NFL quarterback.

Heck, even Garoppolo thinks he’s on his way to being legendary. In fact, he recently claimed that he quietly believed he was better than Tom Brady (via the SF Gate’s Eric Ting) during his time in New England. While he’s got a long way to reaching GOAT status, Garoppolo could be a game-changer for the 49ers. The rest of the NFL could fall victim to a Garoppolypse if he lives up to his potential.

Then again, there’s still a lot to figure out with the 49ers. The receiving corps is strong, but far from a nightmare-inducing bunch. San Francisco’s gaggle of young running backs offers potential, but none have ever even held a starting gig for a full season. The defense has plenty of talent, but not a lot of proven playmakers. So many questions still to be answered…

For now, though, Garoppolo looks like the real deal. If all goes as planned, he’ll be lighting the rest of the league on fire in 2018.
