1. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

Current ADP: 99.4

2017 Average Points Per Game: N/A

If we’re only looking at talent and productivity potential, Andrew Luck should be one of the first fantasy quarterbacks off the board. Unfortunately, based on what we’ve seen (or haven’t seen) in the last three years, drafting Luck just seems like too lopsided of a gamble.

Heck, it wasn’t even until recently that Luck starting throwing a regulation-sized football. He missed all of 2017 with a shoulder injury, something you obviously don’t want to mess with when it comes to quarterbacks. If the injury could limit one of the league’s best to zero snaps, it’s not to be taken lightly.

Now obviously there’s the possibility he bounces back strong and runs roughshod on the rest of the league like he did in his first few seasons. However, there’s also the possibility he suffers a setback early on, essentially flushing your starting quarterback down the toilet. That’ll leave you grasping at straws on the waiver wire, desperately hoping to find a serviceable replacement.

Could that happen with any quarterback? Absolutely. But the risk with Luck is much higher. As great of a passer as he’s capable of being, I just don’t see the sense in taking on that type of risk, even if it is just fantasy football. No need to sink your season because you thought you were being clever drafting Luck in the 10th round.

There’s a decent chance Luck will turn out to be a mid-round steal. However, after he’s missed 26 games in the last three years, let someone else in your league plays those unlikely odds.
