Here are three reasons why the New York Jets need to get a deal done with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold sooner rather than later.

Back in April, the New York Jets were beyond thrilled to see former USC quarterback Sam Darnold slip to No. 3 in the 2018 NFL Draft since they knew there was a chance that the Cleveland Browns or New York Giants would consider him as one of the top two picks. Not to mention, when the Jets previously traded up in the first round with the Indianapolis Colts for the third overall pick, there was plenty of speculation that Darnold was the quarterback the team was eyeing.

Now, it looks like New York has finally found a potential quarterback in Darnold to build the franchise around after all those years going with veterans and passing on players in previous drafts, although they need to get him signed first. With training camp officially underway, Darnold has been one of the key players absent for New York as the two sides seem to be having trouble with reaching an agreement due to language on guaranteed money, which is a little frustrating to see.

Unfortunately, it’s easy to see the reasoning behind both parties since Darnold and the Jets each want to make sure whatever deal is agreed upon is far. But since the first game of preseason is quickly approaching, and both sides can’t afford to waste anymore time, here are three reasons why the Jets need to get a deal with Darnold completed as soon as possible.

Otherwise, it could end up being a long next couple of weeks for New York and Darnold while trying to work thing whole situation out.
