Green Bay Packers: Adjusting to Nelson no longer being around

Too many times great players receive the reminder that the NFL is a business and no job is ever safe, which was exactly the case for Jordy Nelson this offseason when the Green Bay Packers made the tough decision to release the veteran wideout. Most importantly, this decision was even tougher when taking into consideration that Nelson has been one of the favorite targets of Aaron Rodgers over the years, and it’s going to take some time to get used to him no longer suiting up in green and yellow.

On a positive note, at least one of the reasons why Green Bay decided to part ways with Nelson was to bring Rodgers another pass-catching tight end to work with in Jimmy Graham. Without question, Rodgers should benefit from Graham’s massive size in the red zone, but also this doesn’t necessarily mean the Packers’ offense is going to be the same.

Nelson’s numbers may have taken a hit last year, but his presence alone also helped pave the way for some of his former teammates in Randall Cobb and Davante Adams to see additional passes thrown in their direction. As great as Cobb and Adams are, it’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out with Nelson being out of the picture.
