New York Jets: Find a way to make sure Darnold is ready to start

Now that Sam Darnold has officially agreed to his rookie contract after taking a little extra time to work out the details, the New York Jets can finally focus on the USC star developing into their potential quarterback of the future. Since the Jets decided to use the No. 3 pick on the quarterback, many wondered if the Jets would end up playing Darnold as a rookie or let him watch from the sidelines while learning from veterans like Josh McCown or Teddy Bridgewater.

With that being said, New York may want to strongly consider using Darnold as soon as possible under center since gaining experience as a rookie could payoff in a big way down the road. Yes, some teams prefer to have their rookie quarterbacks spend a year learning behind key veterans, but the Jets simply have nothing to lose at this point since nobody is expecting them to be serious contenders in the AFC, whether they want to hear it or not.

The more reps Darnold gets a rookie, the quicker he’s going to be ready to become the type of quarterback New York needs to compete in the conference. After all of the years passing on quarterbacks in the draft, here’s to hoping Darnold turns out to be the real deal, and figures out a way to start as a rookie in 2018.
