Pittsburgh Steelers: Make sure Bell finds a way to be happy
Just when it seemed like Le’Veon Bell couldn’t be anymore frustrated over receiving the franchise tag for a second year in a row, the Pittsburgh Steelers running back saw the Rams take care of their own running back by rewarding Todd Gurley with a hefty extension. Sure, the argument can be made that Bell should still be happy to be making the kind of money he’s going to receive from the Steelers, but it’s safe to assume this situation is only going to continue to be ugly over the next couple of weeks.
After seeing the type of impact he’s made over the last couple of years as one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league, Bell has every right to be frustrated towards Pittsburgh since he’s a key factor in the unit’s success. Playmakers like Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster certainly give the Steelers an extra advantage over opponents, but Bell has proven to be one of a kind talent at running back.
Sooner or later, Pittsburgh is going to have to make the tough decision about whether it’s worth keeping Bell around for the long run since if they’re not going to pay him, some other team will. As for what to expect for the 2018 season, the best thing the Steelers can do is make sure Bell is happy as possible so it doesn’t ruin their chances at competing for a Super Bowl.
