The New York Jets may be starting a rookie quarterback in 2018, but you still shouldn’t count out Terrelle Pryor for your fantasy football team.

When training camp and preseason is all said and done the New York Jets may be starting Sam Darnold — their rookie quarterback expected to be the future of the franchise. When it comes to your fantasy football team, that shouldn’t deter you from picking Jets players, especially one who’s looking to make a big splash: Terrelle Pryor.

Pryor is coming off an injury-riddled season in 2017. So his numbers are a little skewed by that. In 2016, he had 77 catches, 1,004 yards, and four touchdowns, not bad for a WR3 on your team. Also, you have to consider the fact that he had three different quarterbacks throwing him the ball.

While those 77 receptions did come on 132 targets, only six of the ill-fated targets were a result of drops (via Pro Football Focus). So, you can’t look at Pryor as the main culprit for the miscues. For him to be higher up your depth chart, he will have to get more touchdowns.

When you look at numbers from Pro Football Focus on Sam Darnold, he’s great on the short throws (common to the West Coast Offense) and throws 20 or more yards downfield, and he’s good on the intermediate throws.

With all of this, Terrelle Pryor might just become Darnold’s favorite target. Darnold does have a lot of mouths to feed (if he starts), but he’s more than capable of doing the job.

Robby Anderson looked like he was ready for that breakout season last year. However, Pryor already has a 1,000-yard season under his belt in the second season of his life playing the position. So, if you want to wait until later in the draft to pick someone up, Pryor is the guy. He could be the perfect WR3 right now, and work his way into a WR2.
