The New York Jets finally have their franchise quarterback, but what does that mean for this season? Can the Jets be a playoff team?

In the history of the NFL postseason — which dates back to 1933 — 12 rookie quarterbacks were starters going into a playoff game, and nine were injury replacements. The latest was Dak Prescott in 2016.

If New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold starts Week 1, he would look to join that group of 12. Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is one of the 12. So, the Jets have had a rookie start in the playoffs.

As far as this season is concerned, the Jets face a contingent of opponents with a combined .477 from 2018, and they have nine games against opponents they played last season. They were 5-4 in 2017 against repeat opponents.

In the end, it’s all about the quarterback situation, which is now completely up in the air due to Darnold’s late start in camp. That said, if he can learn and get up to speed quickly, he still has a shot at starting.

Let’s take a look at the how the 2018 season shapes up for the Jets.
