Green Bay Packers: Running Back

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, the Green Bay Packers can use some clarity at the running back position. Now, in fairness to them, they’ve done some good work getting a few capable options back there as they attempt to take some of the offensive load off of quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ shoulders.

Now, they just have to figure out who will carry the load. The favorite likely would have been Aaron Jones, one of two rookies from 2017 the Packers added. However, Jones will start the season on a two-week suspension and that could open the door for their other rookie from last season, Jamaal Williams.

A third name in the mix is Ty Montgomery, the converted wide receiver. Montgomery will get his snaps regardless of what happened between Jones and Williams. He excels as a pass catcher, but is no slouch when running the ball.

However, having a traditional back will help any offense. Jones was the better option in that regard last year and he will have to prove in training camp to be much better than Williams to avoid losing his job during his absence. For Williams, it’s actually a great opportunity and if he can take advantage of it, he could be a big part of the offense in Green Bay.
