Indianapolis Colts: Running Back

The best news the Indianapolis Colts could have gotten all offseason came when word broke that quarterback Andrew Luck was going to be out there again for this team. With him gone all of 2017, they just weren’t a very good team. In the long run, his absence could have helped them.

Indy found a reliable No. 2 quarterback in Jacoby Brissett who now has the teams respect. They also ended up with a very high draft pick, which they used to get themselves some more protection for Luck and company.

With the No. 6 overall pick, they took Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson, who is an absolute monster. They also added several other picks thanks to dropping from No. 3 to No. 6 in a trade with the Jets, including getting another guard — Braden Smith — in the second round. Smith, however, will sit behind Jack Mewhort as the Colts finally have a strong interior line.

While the questions there are finally minimal, finding who will be running behind them is still up in the air. Marlon Mack should get the first crack at the running back job, but rookie Nyheim Hines could be the favorite. He’s an undersized back, but with Luck, the Colts will be a pass-first team and the North Carolina State product excelled in that regard.

This will be the most interesting battle to watch with the Colts, and thanks to Luck being back it could be enjoyable for the fans as well.
