5. QB Derek Carr

Current ADP: 118.5

Honestly, I considered leaving Derek Carr off this list entirely. Why? Because I don’t really think him and his fantasy value belong anywhere near the word “tantalizing.” In fact, I would advise you to steer clear of Carr when drafting your fantasy team.

That’s why I decided that leaving him off this list would be doing everyone a disservice. It needs to be known that Carr isn’t going to shine in fantasy this season. Just don’t draft him. That is, unless you enjoy wallowing in sorrow like Raiders Nation has done for most of the last two decades.

I think it all comes back to my belief that Jon Gruden isn’t going to do this team any favors. I wrote months ago (to the hatred of many Raiders fans) that hiring him was the worst decision they made this offseason. I still stand by that assertion, and will continue to do so until proven wrong. His old-school approach and plan to rely so heavily on discounted veterans won’t work.

Carr’s performance a season ago didn’t help, though. First, he’s never been a great fantasy quarterback — his impact is felt much more on the field than in the box score. However, he was serviceable in 2015 and 2016. After his broken leg, though, Carr hasn’t been the same player.

Even with Jordy Nelson in town and a rock-solid offensive line in front of him, Carr isn’t going to light it up in 2018. There are plenty of late-round options for you to consider, and he isn’t one of them.
