This might be the most exciting player to watch this preseason for the Dallas Cowboys. They are going to need rookie wide receiver Michael Gallup to be a productive player on the roster in 2018 because there is no sure thing when it comes to the depth chart of the wide receiver depth chart.

Being that Gallup is going to need many reps to become accustomed to the Cowboys offense, this first preseason game on Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers is one to watch for that reason alone.

Gallup was a third-round selection, so the rookie does have a little bit of pressure to get on a roll early on, but nobody needs him to be the next Michael Irvin or Dez Bryant in terms of superstardom quite yet. Though if Gallup is ready to step up by Week 1 when the Cowboys face the Carolina Panthers, well, that is a whole new story and one that is very welcome for Cowboys fans.

Some believe Gallup could be one of the Top 2 wide receivers on the Cowboys roster this upcoming season, and in a recent USA Today article, Marcus Johnson wrote the following about the up and coming wide receiver:

"“Building a serious buzz, Gallup has been making a case for playing time since the start of off-season work in OTAs and minicamp, and continued to carry this momentum with him into Oxnard.”"

Time will tell just how exciting and successful Gallup can be, but the first step to a potential of being relied on by Dak Prescott begins in his first preseason game.
