1. Allen Hurns, Dallas Cowboys
Current ADP: 122.8
Holy cow! There’s no reason a potential No. 1 receiver, no matter which team he’s on, should be falling that far in fantasy drafts. Allen Hurns has a golden opportunity to be a star for the Dallas Cowboys, and no one seems to be noticing.
The competition for targets is far from fierce in Dallas right now. Hurns and Terrance Williams are the team’s top two receivers. Behind them, Cole Beasley, Tavon Austin, Michael Gallup and Deonte Thompson make up the depth chart (in no particular order). Yikes. That’s not exactly a recipe for success. Poor Dak Prescott.
Still, someone’s got to step up and be the star this season. If I had to put money on someone, it would be Hurns. The Cowboys’ free agency find comes over from the Jacksonville Jaguars, bringing with him big-game potential wrapped in an injury-prone package.
That’s why he’s falling so far in fantasy drafts. The former undrafted free agent has been forced to sit out 11 games in the last two seasons and has already missed time during Cowboys training camp due to a groin injury. The skepticism is understandable, but I’m a believer in Hurns’ ability to shine when he finally gets healthy.
Dallas needs a playmaker in the passing game, especially with Bryant and Jason Witten gone. The list of candidates is far from inspiring, but I’m confident Hurns will emerge as a deep sleeper who delivers fringe WR1 production at some point this season.
