3. Nick Foles

Like I mentioned before we won’t get to see Carson Wentz leading the way, but we should get to see Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles in action, assuming his upper body soreness is gone by Thursday. Not a bad backup option. With Wentz expecting to make a full recovery for the regular season, the preseason may be our best chance to see how Foles looks.

There is a possibility he may only play early in this game due to his upper body injury, so the Eagles will get more of a chance to look at Nate Sudfeld, but when Foles is in the game everyone’s eyes will be glued to him. Will he be able to continue the hot streak that led the Eagles to a Super Bowl? Or will he look like a backup quarterback waiting for the incumbent starter to come back?

The most compelling thing that can happen is if Foles puts on a great performance. If that were to happen then I’m sure there will be some grumblings in the fanbase to have Foles be the opening day starter for the regular season.

The extent of how long Wentz will be out for is being kept under wraps by the Eagles. Even if he is ready for a Week 1 appearance, it might be best for Foles to start the season so Wentz has more time to recover. If Foles is able to impress this preseason, like he did in the playoffs last year, he’ll be making a strong case to be the Day 1 starter.
